one thousand feet
1,000 Feet is a coalition of educational, child health and parent groups across Washington D.C. fighting to keep schools and daycare centers a safe distance away from the sale of marijuana. Parents and school leaders …do not want drugs or the sale of drugs anywhere near schools, childcare centers, playgrounds, parks, or other places where children may be.
Among the major cities in the U.S. that have legalized the sale of marijuana, D.C. allows marijuana stores to be only 300 feet away from schools (and in some cases in D.C. marijuana can be sold right next door to schools and daycare centers). Driven by its concerns for kid’s health and safety, 1,000 Feet is fighting to keep the sale of drugs away from schools and pushing D.C. to comply with the federal Drug-free school zone law which prohibits the sale of drugs within 1,000 feet of schools.
